One of the most prominent TV channels in Ghana, ChannelOne TV featured Dr. Violet Makuku in an episode of THE WOMAN IN YOU WITH ZOE on Sunday, 23rd of March 2025. Hosted by Zoe Abu-Baidoo Addo, the show celebrates outstanding women making a difference and contributing towards sustainable development in Ghana and the world at large. The show serves to uplift and empower women to continue to be resilient and be of positive impact through sharing success stories of women who have defied the odds in societies where women are marginalized and misrepresented.
Zoe opens the interview by appreciating the work which Dr. Makuku has done across the continent as a Quality Assurance expert, playing a pivotal role in harmonizing educational standards across the African continent as a former Diplomat and Project Manager of the African Union Commission (AUC) brainchild called the Harmonization of African Higher Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation (HAQAA) Initiative while housed in the Association of African Universities (AAU). She went on to discuss with Zoe about her past work with the AAU where she served also served as a Workshops Coordinator and Facilitator (2016-2022) before she left to establish the Global Quality Assurance Association (GQAA) and its work in Quality Assurance and philanthropy.


Without wasting any time, Dr. Violet Makuku started by giving a brief history of herself, stating her upbringing, educational background, the time she got married to having children and her life in Ghana. Going deeper into the conversation with Zoe, Quality Assurance (QA) matters were raised by Dr. Makuku with concerns over excessive littering in Ghana, which is much higher compared to other countries. “It is about compliance with the standards, laws and bye-laws, which is lacking,” said Dr. Makuku.
Another important matter discussed during the interview was that of educational relevance and transformation including curriculum issues with an emphasis to move with the times. Dr. Makuku states the importance of designing programs that match current trending issues to solve world problems and contribute towards sustainable development giving an example of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Dr. Violet Makuku was deliberate in thanking the Ghana governments, past and present, for investing in TVET. She went on to highlight the GQAA’s involvement and work with all sectors and industries including the private, government and individuals to help them improve their Quality Assurance for improved quality of efficiency, effectiveness, cost cutting as well as the provision of better products and service delivery. The Director of the GQAA concluded by inviting all parties to work with the organization for better results.
