AFRICAN SPEAKERS BUREAU SESSION 3

On the 23rd of February 2023, the African Speakers Bureau registered its 3rd successful event on educating and empowering the African Higher Education lecturers and students with entrepreneurial knowledge and skills. The initiative started with a pilot of 2 African universities namely the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, and The Southern Africa Nazarene University, Eswatini. Thirty-one personnel were in session today.
The Global Quality Assurance Association (GQAA), which is one of the co-founder organizations was represented by me, DR VIOLET MAKUKU,(Director), who was one of the facilitators. She covered the topic: Moulding the African Entrepreneur for Global Impact.
The major tenets of the event:
i) Wide reading and watching news help to identify possible areas for contemporary entrepreneurship and current tools to use.
ii) Volunteering is part of entrepreneurship
iii) It is important to change mindsets regarding stereotypes and labels given to people who do certain businesses e.g. black people who sell vegetables and fruits are poor and uneducated. Lecturers were advised to encourage students to also venture into such businesses in order to widen their horizons.
iv) Hard work and integrity were also emphasized.
v) The founders of the African Speakers’ Bureau emphasized the need to walk the talk and be role models for the people they are training.
