A special thank you to all those who attended today’s Webinar which was facilitated by Dr Makuku Violet, the Director – GLOBAL QUALITY ASSURANCE ASSOCIATION (GQAA). The hundreds of people who attended today’s Webinar came from different countries including but not limited to Botswana, Cameroon, Egypt, Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe. We all put our hands up in agreement with the view that we are ready and want to pursue other means of resource mobilization including grant writing.
Key lessons i) Let us change our mindsets and look at resource mobilization strategies including but not limited to responding to grant calls. ii) Let us be relentless, deliberate, intentional, hardworkers who a) create quality time and b) become available when needed to make reviews and contribute meaningfully to the grant writing exercise and process. iii) Dare to flush out grant writing team members (“parasites”) who don’t want to contribute and avail themselves during critical moments but want to benefit at the end.
iv) Be brave to let go the fact that you found the grant call and find a strong person in the area of the grant call, even if it means getting someone from outside your organization or institution to be the Principal Investigator (PI) in case of a research grant or Project Lead in case of a project grant. However, v) different agreements among different players involved in grant writing, should be written and signed as soon as possible whether the grant will be worn or not. Agreements should not be signed when the grant has been won because disagreements may emerge and disrupt the smoothness of the implementation process.
vi) Grant Team members need a very strong background in Research Methods and Academic Writing Skills in order to write meaningful and grant winning proposals for both Research and Project grants. The GLOBAL QUALITY ASSURANCE ASSOCIATION offers all the needed support through short online or physical presence workshops for individuals and organizations/institutions (info@gqaa.org; +233 270 239 438; 027 023 9438; +233 263 129 798).
vi) Your grant writing team should be made of people from different specialist areas including but not limited to Finance & Accounting, Languages, Qualitative, Quantitative & Mixed Methods people. They will play different crucial roles in the grant writing and implementation processes.
